Melanie Davies, CBE, MB ChB, MD, FRCP, FRCGP, FMedSci

Professor of Diabetes Medicine, University of Leicester, UK

 

Melanie Davies is Professor of Diabetes Medicine at the University of Leicester and an Honorary Consultant Diabetologist at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.  She is the Co-Director of the Leicester Diabetes Centre, University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.  Professor Davies’ research interests include the causes, screening, prevention, self-management and treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus.  She is a National Institute for Health Research Senior Investigator Emeritus and Director of the NIHR Leicester Biomedical Research Centre and co-chair of EASD/ADA’s Consensus Report on T2D Management. Professor Davies has published over 800 original articles and has over £100M of grant funding. She was awarded the CBE (Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) in the 2016 New Year’s Honour’s List for services to diabetes research.

Roberta Lamptey MBChB, FWACP,FGCP, PGDip, MSc, PhD

Consultant Family Physician and Diabetologist, Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Ghana

 

Dr. Roberta Lamptey is a consultant Family Physician for the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) in Accra, Ghana, with over a decade of experience. She also serves as a diabetes expert for the Ghana Health Service. Roberta is passionate about self-management education and support. Her research is focused on self-management of diabetes and improving care outcomes at the primary care level. She is a co-PI in an on-going study on improving outcomes of cardio-metabolic diseases in Ghana, Kenya, and Mozambique. She has authored national guidelines and publications in high-impact journals including The Lancet.

 

 

Nisa Maruthur MD, MHS
Associate Professor of Medicine, Epidemiology, & Nursing, Johns Hopkins University, USA

 

Dr. Nisa Maruthur is Associate Professor of Medicine, Epidemiology and Nursing at Johns Hopkins University.  She is the Co-Medical Director for the Baltimore Metropolitan Diabetes Regional Partnership at Johns Hopkins, which coordinates the Diabetes Prevention Programs and Diabetes Self-Managements Training in our region.   She is also the Director of Community Program Implementation for the Brancati Center for the Advancement of Community Care; in this role, she leads community-based Diabetes Prevention Programs in Baltimore.  Dr. Maruthur completed her medical degree at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and her residency and fellowship training at Johns Hopkins. Dr. Maruthur served on the consensus panel of the EASD/ADA on the Management of Hyperglycemia in Type 2 diabetes in 2021-2022. She is a general internist with an active primary care practice and conducts research on diabetes prevention and the individualized care of diabetes.

 

 

Claire Meek, PhD, BM ChB

Dr. Claire Meek is a clinical consultant in diabetes in pregnancy at Addenbrooke’s hospital, Cambridge (UK) and a principal investigator at the Institute of Metabolic Science, University of Cambridge. She is supported by a Diabetes UK intermediate clinical fellowship and Future Leaders’ Award from the European Foundation for the Study of Diabetes in association with the Novo Nordisk Foundation. She has also won several national and international awards including the Young Investigator Award and Pregnancy special interest group award from the American Diabetes Association, the Young Investigator Award from the Association of Physicians (UK) and the British Medical Foundation Helen H Lawson Award. Dr. Meek runs a research team which includes scientists and healthcare professionals who work together to run interventional and observational clinical studies in diabetes, nutrition and obesity in pregnancy.

 

 

Athena Philis-Tsimikas, MD
Corporate Vice President of the Scripps Whittier Diabetes Institute at Scripps Health, USA

Board-certified endocrinologist Dr. Athena Philis-Tsimikas is the Corporate Vice President of the Scripps Whittier Diabetes Institute at Scripps Health and the Director of Community Engagement for the Clinical Translational Science Award, housed at Scripps Research Translational Institute in San Diego, California. With over 25 years of experience, she has served as a member of the Scripps Clinic Medical Group in the Division of Endocrinology and Diabetes and leads the Diabetes Care Line for Scripps Health, which creates programs, conducts research, and delivers diabetes services across five Scripps hospitals, twenty five outpatient facilities, and the community. She is a leader of the innovative Project Dulce and Dulce Digital program, which cares for underserved populations with diabetes. Dr. Philis-Tsimikas and Scripps Whittier Diabetes Institute are actively promoting the participation of health centers in community-based clinical research with a focus on integrating digital technologies to improve diabetes care in the ambulatory and hospital setting.
